Leah Stine
Coach Leah
Leah Stine is a homeschooling mom of three, life-long learner, homesteader in the making, and writer. She has her Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and has been a copywriter for over eight years. She is the author of A Boy and His Butterfly and is devoted to self-improvement, inspiring others, and creating a life that balances her desire to help others and create a happy home for her family.
When her middle son, who she thought was just a struggling reader like her oldest, couldn’t read when starting 5th grade, she knew there was a problem. She went to the ophthalmologist to get his eyes checked and it was determined that there were no issues. She spoke with reading tutors and researched a lot of reading programs. After trying a couple of them, she realized there had to be an underlying issue. Speaking to her homeschooling coach was the turning point for him. She recommended talking to Vision Reading Academy for an evaluation. Five minutes into the evaluation and the problem was diagnosed!
He immediately started vision reading therapy and within 6 months went from a Kindergarten reading level to a 5th grade reading level. It has made such a huge impact on their family that Leah is determined to help other families who can’t figure out why their child is having issues reading. She understands the struggles for the child, the struggles for the parents who feel like they did something wrong, and the support needed to keep moving forward and pushing until the issue is determined and resolved. Leah appreciates the moment when your child turns to you and says, “It felt really good to be able to read my own birthday cards this year!”
Nicole Martin
Coach Nicole
Nicole lives out in rural Idaho, where she homeschools 5 kiddos and enjoys the country life. Her family travels together all over and enjoys the rodeo life and anything outdoors. She has loved being close to her kids, and having the opportunity to teach them at home and help them develop their strengths and a love for learning.
One of her daughters did not pick up reading as the other kids have. She noticed things were much harder for her, and math became very difficult also. After having taught several other kids to read easily she knew there must be more to what was going on. She took her daughter to see an ophthalmologist several times to get her eyes checked and was told they were perfect and she had no vision issues. They took her to a specialist where at 8 years old she was diagnosed with severe dyslexia & dyscalculia. For several years, with lots of tutoring, and long stressful days, her daughter finally learned to read. But it was not fun, and she still had lots of learning issues. They were told she would need a scribe probably, and writing and cognitive things were not going to happen. Her mama heart was broken.
Nicole did not stop researching, learning, and talking to anyone and everyone she could about options, help, programs, anything she could that might help her daughter. Then.. a friend told her about Krystle and eye therapy. She was shocked. WHY in over 5 years of searching for new things and talking to people had no one mentioned something called eye therapy? How is this not more well known? She text Coach K immediately and got her daughter an evaluation. Her prayers were answered. It was confirmed she had an ocular motor issue, and her mama gut had been right all along. There was more to her daughter’s story.. she just needed to find the answers.
They started eye therapy immediately… and within 6 months her reading had improved drastically. Her confidence started to soar, she was able to read road signs and labels in the store. She was able to read scriptures when called on in church. She was able to start reading chapter books finally for the first time.
Now a year later, Nicole is excited to give the gift that was given to her daughter, to other children that need someone to show them they are so smart. They are capable and there is a whole new world waiting for them to be viewed. She believes everyone deserves the gift of reading, and she will never stop talking about how much dyslexia is misdiagnosed due to ocular disorders not being educated about enough. She is excited to join Vision Reading Academy and be apart of change for children and people everywhere.
